Interview : Mădălina Florea
She is the trail athlete of the moment. Winner of the Golden World Trail Series stage in Noli and second of the overall classification, Mădălina Florea seems to be at the top of her game. A few days after her amazing victory in Noli, the Romanian athlete from Team Scott took time to answer our questions. A quick interview for one of the fastest athlete in the GWTS.
Since your beginning in the Golden World Trail Series, you have always been on front, but this season, your level seems to be even better. What did you change in your preparation or your training strategy to be at such a high level ?
Honestly, I didn’t change much in my training. But this year, I feel much more relaxed both physically and mentally. I try to follow my coach Greg Vollet’s training plan closely, which gives me clarity and balance. A big part of this progress comes from the support I now receive from SCOTT and the people who truly believe in me. I feel more confident, more motivated, and most importantly, I’ve found an environment where I can genuinely enjoy the process not just chase the result.
What elements of your past on the track and on the road help you to perform at the highest level in trail running ?
I think what helps me the most from my track and road background is the speed. Even though I’m now racing on trails, I can still feel that flat speed — and it’s a real adrenaline boost to know I can use it when it matters. Also, I’ve always loved running uphill, so the mix of speed and strength really works in my favor during races.
Noli was the place of your first major win in the GWTS, what was it like to win here again, two years after your last victory ?
I can definitely say that Noli is my favorite place — where I’ve had the most beautiful memories, starting with 2023. It feels like I had to return here to reconnect with the feeling of winning again. Since that first major victory, I had only finished second or third, so this win felt like a powerful reset. Noli gave me new energy, fresh motivation, and a vibe that’s honestly hard to put into words. All I can say is that I’m truly grateful for everything that’s happening, and I deeply appreciate the journey.
What are your goals for the rest of the season, do you think that you can win the GWTS overall classification ?
For me, the most important thing is the journey — not just the result. I don’t believe sport is only about winning; it’s about living real moments, creating lasting memories, and building meaningful connections. I’ve learned more from difficult days than from victories — and those experiences made me stronger. I’m not focused on whether I’ll win the overall classification. I just want to see how many beautiful things I can create by the end of the season. My goal is simple: to run with an open heart, to feel free, and to enjoy every race. Like I always say — to be “crazy” in my own way.
